CONTEXT

The Koala Conservation Program is based on a collaboration with the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) to contribute to multiple conservation projects to protect Australian Koalas in the wild.

THREATS

The threats affecting Koalas are as follows:

  • Habitat Loss: Deforestation, fragmentation of territories, human invasion of habitats
  • Diseases: KoRV (Koala Retrovirus), Chlamydia, hip dysplasia, metabolic bone disease
  • Climate change: Drought, forest fires

Mission

Education, research and conservation efforts, are here united in one integral program aimed at the survival and sustainability of koala populations, both in zoos and in its natural habitats. The objective is to improve these two elements in the long run.
